Where’s the Fire?
It was 12:35am this morning when all the smoke detectors decided to go off in our house. Talk about a rude awakening!! It took me a minute to clear the fog in my head and realize what that horrendous sound was. It took about five minutes for my husband to get up and started yanking them all down and pulling the batteries. The girls were stirring, but neither one got up. Why does this have to happen in the middle of the night?? It’s not the first time. Usually when a battery is going dead, that one detector will start chirping – in the middle of the night. We had a full blown alarm this time, and no fire.
Fortunately, I went straight back to sleep. But not before I realized that I had a song in my head.
The Spirit of the Lord is here,
The Spirit of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The Spirit of the Lord is here.
Took me a minute to remember where I had heard this song. It was Jessica’s blog. I highly recommend taking a few minutes to see the video!

I’m so glad that had an impact on you. Me too. It’s a catchy tune and a good one to be stuck in your head. Glad you were all safe.

hmm – I guess I would be worried that the girls didn’t wake up. If it was a real fire, you would have to get out of the house very quickly ?
On the other hand, are you curing your soaps in the house ? Stong smells can set the b**** off sometimes. I got rid of the one in front of our kitchen. It went off every time we fried bacon….

Haha! I HATE that. You are so right: It’s always in the middle of the night. Why can’t it be in the middle of the day, when no one is napping (it happened once here while Alex was napping, which was awful too).

what a horrible way to wake up in the night. We have the carbon monoxide / smoke detector combo and it actually talks…warning us, in between the horrendous beeps.
Glad everything turned out okay. A few months back, I could smell something (like paper or cardboard) burning in our garage (we’d only lived there a month or two). But we couldn’t locate any smoke or fire. Hubby came home and we called 911. The firefighters were here pronto – they live just around the corner from us. There were 6-7 firefighters in our garage and they were completely stumped. They even pulled out their fancy temperature guns and used all their firefighting brilliance, but found nothing.
They did install a couple more smoke detectors for us (free) and advise us to rewire and replace some of the fluorescent lighting in our garage.
Praise God everything was okay, but that was pretty hairy for awhile.
