The Sunny Side

My booth at the Overland Park Fall Festival was facing the southwest yesterday. I had the sunny side! It was a very warm and sunny day for late September in Kansas: in the low 80s. By the middle of the afternoon, even with my canopy, there was NO shade in my booth. First I had to put away the lip butters. Next, the lotions had to be put up. Finally, I realized the Whipped Shea Butter testers were melting and I put those away too. All I had left was the soap. Fortunately, it held up really well in the sun. I was disappointed though. I didn’t see a lot of traffic coming to my booth, and I’m hoping the rest of my Whipped Shea Butters survived somewhat intact.

As I think back on my day though, there is a sunny side. Some of my best customers came to see me yesterday. The people who are really loyal and loving. They bless me so much!

I also got to see one of my mom’s friends whom I hadn’t seen for many years – in fact, I’m trying to remember the last time and I can’t. She told me about her son and daughter-in-law in Omaha (they are my age and I knew them from school and church) who are teaching Sunday School in their church along with another couple who taught us when we were in 3rd grade. And how neat it is that the cycle continues…

I also talked to a family who has been buying their handmade soap from New Jersey and want to buy locally, so they are switching to mine! I talked to a woman from the booth next to mine whose daughter is getting married in June and wants me to make some custom soaps as wedding favors.

So while I didn’t make as much money as I was hoping, and some of my products were sweating in the sun, I think I had a pretty good day. 🙂

  1. God works in some of the most beautiful and unexpected ways. The connections made may make for much more blessing down the line rather than in the immediate! How wonderful to get to touch base with all of those people and more I am sure!
