Two More New Soaps!
Yesterday, I made more soap! One batch I’ve made before, but had requests to bring it back. One customer (and all four of her daughters) want it for the scent, the other wants it for the design. Either way, they are all going to be happy. It’s the Sweet & Sassy soap that I made for Valentines Day this year. This time it should be available at Greatcakessoapworks.com by Saturday, June 19:
The second soap was an experiment, but one I was really hoping would turn out fabulously. You can see the glitter reflecting in the light. I figured while I had it out for the Sweet & Sassy soap, I might as well sprinkle a bit on this one too! It looked like this in the mold:
It’s actually a salt bar, with some of the regular soap base frosted over the top to look like waves. I used Mediterranean Sea Salt fragrance, and swirled the blue from the top as well as a turquoise color in the “salty” part of the soap. Other than the bottoms being a bit crumbly, it actually turned out the way I hoped!
My hubby already claimed one of these. I told him it was too girly for him with all the glitter, but he didn’t seem to care! For the rest of you, this one should be ready by Saturday, June 12.
The last time I made salt bars was exactly two years ago. They are made with equal amounts of oils and salt, and the lather is more like lotion than regular soap. First I experimented with using Dead Sea salt. Miserable failure. The next time I used coarse kosher salt, and they turned out very well. In fact, it was this type of soap that sparked the discussion creating my most popular post: “How Much Does the Skin Absorb?” In other words, will the salt from the soap elevate a person’s blood pressure? I’ve received all kinds of comments on this post which are very interesting. They range from people asking about the absorption of certain chemicals to some actual “expert” opinions on the matter. Comment #64 is the most in-depth response from one of the “experts” if you are interested.

They are so beautiful! I am especially drawn to the salt bar. I love the colors that you used and I like the effect of the “ocean” for the topping. Sweet!

The pink and black soap is striking. I’m not surprised that your customers wanted it back. Going to check out the Salt Bar post now.
