On the Curing Rack: Coffee Soaps
Coffee soaps are a category all their own! The coffee in the soap neutralizes odors on your hands. I’ve always known that they made good kitchen soaps, but I’ve had a customer report that it removes farm animal smells, and I’ve even had a photography teacher tell me that it removes the smell of the processing chemicals!
Normally, I would make one scent at a time, but since I had requests for both Cinnamon Bun and Moroccan Spice, I made both! I had one new ingredient, and one new technique that I experimented with on these soaps. Since I was dividing the batch, I decided to go ahead and mix up a double batch of oils and lye and then separate the batches by weight after the oils and lye had been combined. I had never tried this before, but it worked great! I didn’t blend the soap at all, just stirred it with a spoon, and after pouring off half the soap, I set it aside while I finished up the other half.
Starting with the Moroccan Spice soap, I added a new ingredient that I had never used before: Australian red reef clay. The powdered clay is actually a dark orange color which I figured would go well with the orange and spicy scent of the Moroccan Spice fragrance. I used it as the swirl color, and was a little surprised to see how truly red it became after it was put in the soap:
Next, I made the Cinnamon Bun Coffee Soap. I wanted it to have a different swirl color than the Moroccan Spice, so I went with a nice creamy white – just like a nice, creamy vanilla frosting on a sticky Cinnamon Bun. The swirls really turned out beautifully:
You know how sometimes your swirls end up creating cool designs? I thought this was pretty neat:
Both of these soaps will be available Monday, December 6th at Greatcakessoapworks.com

You are such a skilled woman. I bet all of these are so lovely!
They are beautiful Amy, that Moroccan Spice sounds delicious, I love the sound of that. The bottom swirl is really cool, you are a very talented lady:)
bring on the coffee!!
Gorgeous swirls!!
I love stuff like this! I have loads of coffee flavoured candles and the weird thing is I don’t even like coffee! Your soap looks awesome, kind of like a cake! I love that it’ll make your hands smell of coffee!
Wonderful idea to offer 2 different kinds of coffee soaps, very inspiring, Amy! Maybe yours are the perfect soap shape? I would love to give them a spin 🙂
Thanks for the comments!
@Harriet – The soap doesn’t actually smell like coffee, so your hands would smell like the fragrance of the soap – either Moroccan Spice or Cinnamon Bun.
@c’bong – We’ll just have to see about that!
lol my hubby is a coffee addict!! I can see him using this soap and loving it! lol
I can wait 😉
I’d probably go for the cinamon one, very Christmassy!
These are the prettiest coffee soaps I’ve ever seen 🙂
regards from Romania/ Transylvania.
my english is not that good , please excuse me:)
your soaps are wonderful. You and c’bong are a real inspiration.
I try to understant how you poor to obtain this beautiful curls.
thanks!
@Luthelo – Thank you for your comment! I swirled these soaps in the soap pot at a light trace. If you pour the swirl color in about three different spots around the pot, then stir just a couple times, it will swirl even more as you pour it into the mold. Best wishes!
Thank you too. In Romania we don’t have access to that many colours, but i’ll try with different clay( green, red) or coal powder.
c’bong thanks for your useful link also <3
