On the Curing Rack: Antique Lilac
The Antique Lilac soap is definitely a favorite for Spring! I get requests for it every year – and this time the customer who requested it happened to be coming by last night to pick up an order when I was getting ready to cut it…so I let her do the honors!
After all the embeds, faux funnel swirl, gradient, and vertical mold experiments, I was ready to go back to my old standby: swirl-it-in-the-pot method. The base is the lightest lavender, and there are two swirl colors: true purple, and a bluish-gray purple. The lilac fragrance is just barely workable for two swirls – especially after I had tweaked my colors until I liked them. It was setting up fast in the mold by the time I swirled the top and added just a light sprinkling of glitter.
The glass plate is an antique item, but because I was having a difficult time picking a background, I took some photos with an antique tablecloth as well:
Which photo do you like best??
The Antique Lilac soap will be available at Greatcakessoapworks.com on April 4th.

I like the second picture best because I thought I could see the soap best in that one. My order came yesterday. Thank you so much. The Lime Lip Balm is so nice. Not to sweet just right. The Lemonade soap is so fresh and smells like spring/summer. The Grapefruit/Jasmine soap has such a good fragrance. Thank you for all the work you do to make these soaps for us.
I like how the soap is positioned in the third picture and the dish on top of the tablecloth in the first one. Not too helpful, I’m sorry 😛 The third was really my favorite but the soap just looks a little washed out by the white.
@Rita – Thanks so much for your feedback on the photos and your order! I’m so glad you like everything!!
@Lori – Yes, I agree about the 3rd one looking more washed out…
Love the soap, and love the 2nd picture as those tops are amazing.
Hi Amy, I actually loved the look of the third picture and although the soap did look paler I just think that made it look like more antique like, a kind of gentile faded look, I would keep it! Beautiful swirl too
@Polly – Thanks! It’s difficult to see the glitter in these pics, but the colors do stand out.
@Ishbel – I suppose there is something to be said for the gentle faded look. 🙂
Gorgeous and how fun for your customer!
Hi Amy,
Your soap is lovely. I love the soft pretty swirls, and I love Lilac.
I like the third one, with the tablecloth. I don’t think it looks washed out at all! Your colors are great, and I’m assuming the Lilac smells wonderful. I can only hope to get a website going soon, so I can get some opinions from people! I had a request to make goat milk lilac soap, do you think it will accelerate trace? The lilac is from Bramble Berry. Thanks for all your inspiration!!
Thanks for your comments, Holly & Darlene!!
@LuAnn – I haven’t used the lilac from BB, but I would imagine it will accelerate some. I’ve used lilac FO’s from two different suppliers and both of them I’ve had to work pretty fast.
Looks great! I like the middle photo, I’m always a fan of a soap stack!
Thanks, Erin! Appreciate the feedback!
Beautiful! The color you swirled with makes a great looking antique soap.
I like the view of the top of the soaps the best because of those incredibly beautiful swirls; the middle photo. I just made Lilac too and am excited to sell it. I used silicone flower molds. My Lilac accelerated trace somewhat.
I love the photo on the tablecloth! Beautiful soap & the “antique” name is perfect! 🙂
