You Know It’s Time to Make More Lotion When…
…Hubby goes to Walmart and comes back with this:
Yes, it’s horrifying – I completely agree! I’ve been unmotivated to make lotion when I had so much SOAP to make. Soap is my passion, after all. But now I couldn’t ignore the need any longer. Along with the usual Stress Relief and Grapefruit Parfait lotions that I’ve had in stock for several months now, I wanted to make some test batches with the fruit essences that I purchased last month. I haven’t mass produced these yet, as I’d like to get some opinions from my local farmer’s market customers first.
The first one is called Cherry Orange Tea-Cake. I used black cherry essence in place of the distilled water and added some orange and almond essential oils. The fruit essence is straight-up fruit, so I felt that it needed something to sweeten it up a bit.
The second one is simply Fruit Essence – made with black cherry, concord grape, and green apple fruit essences in place of the water. I didn’t add any other fragrance to this one. It’s like a straight-up fruit juice!
While I was at it, I decided to try a couple more fragrances.
I also made a Rosewood lotion scented with a blend of rosewood, geranium, and ylang ylang essential oils – very similar to the blend from the discontinued Dead Sea Spa Facial Bars. It’s just a bit too strong, however, so I’m going to have to make another batch of lotion to dilute it. I’m thinking a little dab of patchouli would also improve it.
Stress Relief, Grapefruit Parfait, and Lavender Lemon Hand & Body Lotions are now available at Greatcakessoapworks.com. They are all made with a large portion of aloe vera juice (great for after sun), and scented with essential oils for the most natural moisturizing experience for your dry skin!

The cherry orange tea cake sounds wonderful. Let me know when it becomes available or if you make a cherry almond one also let me know.
Ha! I almost bought lotion today when I was at the store! 🙂 that’s how unmotivated I’ve been to make it. It’s easy but it’s still not my favorite thing to do and I even really like my lotion. Maybe tomorrow…. Your’s looks and sounds great!
Oh no! Generic Walmart lotion? That IS terrible! LOL 🙂
Yummy, they all sound s fabulous, xx Linda
I love the idea of fruit essence where can I purchase it? Also, I love your labels so professional. Thats my biggest challenge.
LOL – Hope you didn’t punish him too bad for bringing that home! 🙂
Hi Amy,
Some of your lotion is on my wishlist now! What is the Stress Relief scent like?
My husband was heading to the grocery store and asked if we need toilet paper
or bar soap? Um, I can’t make toilet paper but I’m pretty sure we have a house full of soap!! I just had to chuckle and am sure he said it without thinking. I was just thankful he was willing to do the shopping! Your lotions sound wonderful – especially the cherry orange tea cake!!
Are you going to sell the 3 trial lotions on your website? I’d love to try them – they all sound great! I would also love it if you made a cherry almond or vanilla scented lotion. I love to use the stress relief lotion I bought from you before I go to bed at night – the scent really is relaxing.
@Armi – I sold the only full-sized Cherry Orange Tea-Cake lotion that I had from the test batch, but it was definitely preferred over the straight-up Fruit Essence by my customers, so I will be making more of that one this week as well as finishing up the Rosewood. The Lavender Lemon is available now. 🙂
Amy, everything looks and sounds amazing! One question, do you print your own labels? I guess 2 questions…..do you offer your lotion in just one size?
@cari – Yes and yes. 🙂
