Addicted to Fragrance
I just have to confess something: I am addicted to fragrance. I find that I am not alone in this addiction. Just talk to most any soapmaker or chandler and you will find a common theme. We are all addicted to fragrance. Our fragrance suppliers are very good at encouraging this addiction. They offer things like sampler sets where you can buy four or six small bottles to try for one low price. Before you know it, you’re buying the full size versions of each and every one. Or, you have the co-ops where a bunch of us go in together to get our fragrances for a lower price. Of course you must buy at least pound at a time to get the best price.
We also buy fragrance to satisfy our customers. Someone asks if we have this fragrance or that fragrance…they tell us how wonderful it is, and next thing we know, we’ve acquired it. And I have to admit, most of the time these end up being the best sellers.
So here’s my full confession: I have 95 different fragrance oils and 35 different essential oils in (and around) my soap closet, people. It’s about 53 pounds worth.
I’m asking soapmakers everywhere to make their confessions. You’ll feel better. Are you addicted like I am?

My name is Aletha and I am addicted to Fragrance Oils! My addiction started the beginning of this year. I dont like to count how many I have, Im a closet fragrance keeper
I forgot to add, I dont want a cure just another scent!!!!!!
Absolutely! I have way too many fragrances and most of them I have never even tried. I have been trying to stop the spending…but it is SOOOO hard! 😉
Aletha, you are too funny!
Oh yes, Sarah, I forgot to mention how many of those I haven’t used yet. I’m afraid to count.
The follow-up post will be about whether or not our DH knows how many we have…
I am still considered a soaping newbie but I am absolutely positively addicted to FO’s! Thanks to OT and Brambleberry, that addiction has grown and like Aletha said, I in no way want a cure, just another scent! I’m rather proud to be a fragrance addict! hahahaha! Thanks for this great post!!!!
I, too, am an addict. There are days when I just open random bottles and sniff. I’ve even taken a favorite scent in a vial to sniff at work…when I need a fix.
I have a lot I haven’t used, too…trying to figure out the perfect recipe to use them in. In the meantime, I’ll just keep snorting my scents.
I too have an addiction. I’ll admit it. Lol. I’ve had customers tell me to choose which scent because they cannot make up their mind! I’ve been drastically reducing them though…slowly. Hehe
If I had to count all the pound bottles I might start to cry… and don’t get me started on the dozens and dozens of sample bottles I haven’t gotten around to testing yet. But you know what? The customers love the selection and want more and more so I’m more than happy to oblige!! LOL!!!
See, I knew I wasn’t the only one!! Thanks for posting! Anyone else?
I’ve only been “collecting” since the beginning of the year and have probably used more then half of what I have purchased and am slowly making my way through the rest. I’m using every ounce of will power to not go buy more because the description sound awesome (at least until I use more of what I already have). Besides, if another box showed up on the porch, DH might disown me…
I can’t even begin to get started on this one. I’ll just take comfort in knowing that I am in good company when it comes to this addiction! 🙂
Trisha, we all started the same way. Using most of what we bought, etc. Then one day you will look around and start to believe that they just multiplied like rabbits!
Come on, Shannon! You can ‘fess up here! We won’t make fun of you (very much).
