Best Handmade Soap Blogs – Taking Nominations

With the 83rd Annual Academy Awards just announced recently, I would like to create a similar extravaganza honoring handmade soap bloggers! There are lots of great handmade soap blogs out there, and I would like to gather them up here and showcase the best ones. No prize involved, just the satisfaction of being the best, and having your blog promoted on all my social media channels. I currently follow about 40 soap blogs, and have my own favorites, but I’d like to hear about yours because I’m sure there are more! This will be a great way to network and share information, so let’s get started!

Here are the categories for the nominations:

Best Photography
Best Soap Reviews
Best Soap Showcases
Best Information about Making Cold/Hot Processed Soaps
Best Information about Making Melt & Pour Soaps
Best Overall Content

How it works:
You may nominate your own blog or someone else’s in as many categories as you wish. I will gather up the nominations and create a poll to discover the winners. Use the comment section for your nominations (all nominations from a single person can be entered into one comment). You may also nominate anonymously if you like – just write “Anonymous” instead of your name. Remember this is for the best bloggers – not necessarily the best soapmakers, although they may be one and the same. Comments will close on Friday, March 4th at 10pm CST. Feel free to share this post around Facebook and Twitter. Let’s have some fun!

Nominations are now closed.

  1. I would like to nominate Great Cakes Soapworks for the best photography. I have always thought that Amy’s pictures have such a professional, creative, and pleasant look to them, and her backgrounds and props always compliment the soap that is being displayed. Her lighting is just right for showing texture and depth in her soaps, props, etc.

  2. I nominate Joanna at The Soap Bar for Best Soap Showcases. She always has the best soap porn!

  3. Ok, Amy, here are my nominations:
for Soap Showcases: The Soap Bar
    for Soap Reviews: Cocobong Soaps
    for Photography: Naiad Soap Arts
for Info about making CP/HP: Soap and the Finer Things in Life.
I’m really looking forward to seeing all the nominations and maybe discovering some great new blogs!

  4. Hi Amy,
    Well, here goes:
Reviews -Cocobong- like her numeric rating system.

Showcases -Cocobong (love her “soaps of the world” collection that’s always on her site -very interesting
    )
Best info -boy, Jenora soaps and NaKin are both very willing to share info unselfishly…-who can forget Jen with her color experiments? Ambra always shares her recipes…so that’s a toss up for me.

Overall content -Great Cakes Soapworks! Nice variety, various soaping topics, not too “sales-ey”, if you know what I mean.

There you go -my votes have been cast! What a fun idea for a post Amy, great job! Hope lots of folks will play along. πŸ˜€

  5. I used to think The Soap Bar had the best reviews until that all went by the wayside and CocoBong took over, although I feel it’s a little competitive and I am more fond of just working for one’s self.

    Soap Showcases: The Soap Bar
Photography: The Soap Bar and CocoBong
Info about making cp/mp soap: Soap and The Finer Things
There’s a blog that did an entire series called “The Vanilla Files” which is invaluable but she stopped blogging for a year and recently lt returned. her vanilla files are still available on her blog. Se does multiple experiments with color, fragrance, stain…with muliple vanillas. Her blog: http://artisansoaps.blogspot.com/p/vanilla-files.html

Best overall content: THe Soap Bar

I try to touch base with soaping issues, bring in guest tutorials, and vary topics. A lot of soap blogs are typically about their own soap.

Thanks for allowing me to vote on myself.

Hope those molds are working out for you, Amy!!!! πŸ™‚

  6. I have to go with Joanna at The Soap Bar, great soap porn, and hell she even admits when she screws up a batch, good discussions on technique always come of it.

For reviews probably Cocobong, the categories rate what’s important.

  7. Point taken, Jo. I never wanted the reviews to turn into a competition but it seems they have. My initial idea about introducing soaps/soapers from all over the globe rather than focusing on the US (which is the case The Soap Bars reviews) has been diluted with the “Who makes the Best soap” question. I will brainstorm this one and make appropriate changes, so thank for waking me up to it. That said..here are my votes:
Best Photography – Between Friends / Cocobong
    Best Soap Reviews – Cocobong
Best Soap Showcases – Cocobong / The Soap Bar
Best Information about Making Cold/Hot Processed Soaps – NaKIN / El Sapone / Jenora
Best Information about Making Melt & Pour Soaps – Soap and The Finer Things
Best Overall Content – NaKIN/ The Soap Bar

  8. My vote for best overall content is for The Soap Bar. It is my absolute favorite blog out there. She has great writing style, nice photography, excellent reviews, and wonderful products. I can’t say enough!

  9. Hi,
I’m a new soap blogger and would love to be nominated for the best soap showcases. I really focus on large beautiful photos of soap and their packaging from around the world. I really appreciate what some of you amazing soapmakers can do with your craft and like to showcase it in a design like manner. Although its not very informative, it is very very visual! if nothings to come of this because I do know that I’m a newbie, then I just want to be able to inspire! I know I surely am just maintaining the blog! thanks, http://www.soapisbeautiful.com because it is beautiful indeed. I’m an addict πŸ™‚

    oh and one more thing…
I would like to nominate http://thesoapbar.blogspot.com/ for the best over all content! I love her blog πŸ™‚

  10. Could I nominate my own blog in the Best Overall Content category please? I feel kinda selfish doing that, but I’d love my blog to get more followers/readers.
I love blog hopping through the various soap making stes, and most of the blogs mentioned so far are ones I visit regularly.

    Cheers

  11. Best Photography = Inner Earth Soaps
    Best Reviews = Cocobong Soaps
Best Soap Showcase = Cocobong blogs about soap from all over the world sometimes with her lovely photos (all are not necessarily reviewed – I like the international feel.
Best Information about Making Cold/Hot Processed Soaps = Amy’s Blog. Amy does great tutorials ie. her microwave hot process etc.
Best Information about Making Melt & Pour Soaps = Soap and The Finer Things
Best Overall Content – The Soap Bar

  12. Great blog you have! I would like to nominate Celine for her Soaperstar blog http://www.soaperstar.blogspot.com/ for best Photography, best soap showcases and best overall content. She and her husband have worked really hard at getting her photo’s as good as they are and she is a brilliant soapmaker of course! Her blog is always fun to read as she has a great way of putting everything into writing. Lois x

  13. I’d like to nominate Soaperstar http://www.soaperstar.blogspot.com/ for best overall content, best soap showcases and best photography. I’m utterly in love with all her products and am so addicted to just looking at the soaps on her site and Facebook page. I just wish my computer was scratch and sniff for her photos!

  14. I am so glad to learn about all of these blogs I didn’t know about. Now I get to explore!

  15. @Dennise – This is just nominations so far! Oh yes, Best New Soap Blog would be a great category too – perhaps I’ll consider that one next time! πŸ™‚

  16. I would nominate everybody, but I will pick a few faves here: I nominate Cocobong, Between Friends & Soap Bar for Photos. Soap Sister & Cocobong for information on Hot/Cold processed soaps. And WOW – as I was reading through the comments I discovered http://www.soapisbeautiful.com which has just blown me away with soap photos from around the world. I nominate soapisbeautiful for soap showcase. xoxo Jen
