Meet Padme and Alice

Sorry it’s been awhile since my last post. The crud came to the Warden family last Friday, and still has us hacking our lungs out…fortunately, we’re all fever-free finally! In the meantime, since I didn’t feel like doing much, I’ve been working on halloween costumes!

My older daughter wanted to be Padme (from Star Wars) this year, after seeing a costume in my neighbor’s Halloween Express catalog. Call me frugal, but I didn’t want to spend $27+ on a costume. So I checked at Walmart, and found a nice, white GI Joe suit for just $10. I added silver armbands, and created “boot covers” and a belt with two holsters out of silver pleather. My daughter now wants me to take off the collar, and the billowy parts in the front of the suit before she will be satisfied with the outcome. She tried on the suit this afternoon, threw a fit, and promptly fell asleep in her bed. (The effects of the sickness, I’m sure, since this one NEVER naps.) I’ll get a better picture on Halloween, but for now, this is what I’ve got:

My younger daughter decided to be Alice in Wonderland this year. I found a pattern for the dress at Joann ETC, and picked up all the supplies during their Coupon Commotion Week at the end of September. I’ve really enjoyed sewing this one! Although it took me a full hour to blind stitch the hem by hand… It still needs the apron, but other than that, it’s finished!! My younger daughter was a much more willing model:

  1. You did great! I wish I could hand make the halloween costumes, I haven’t the courage yet. It is so nice that you made these, now they can pass them on to their own children 🙂

  2. so your a seamstress as well! such a talented mommy. That is one think I don’t have the patient for. I do have a sewing machine though. I have made a baby sling and a few curtains. Nothing like that costume. great job!

  3. Cute Alice dress! You did a great job. Give her a black headband, and she’ll look truly Tenniel.
