Oatmeal Stout Soap Giveaway
It’s been too long since I’ve hosted a giveaway! So, just for fun I thought I’d give you all a chance to win a bar of the Oatmeal Stout soap. You may have seen the photo on Cocobong’s blog when she did her review of the Patchouli Beer Bar, and you may have also noticed that it is the Soap of the Week:
The soap is made with a rich, dark Oatmeal Stout from local brewing company Free State out of Lawrence, Kansas. (Notice the whipped soap on top!) The fragrance reminds me of oatmeal cookies, but with the subtle smell of hops.
Entering the giveaway is easy – just leave a comment telling me why you love handmade soaps and how you got started using them. Or if you haven’t tried a handmade soap, why you might want to! I’ll have as many winners as it takes to have a 1 in 10 chance of winning, or I run out of Oatmeal Stout soap!
Comments will close Tuesday, July 19th at 10pm CST, and I will contact the winners the next day. (One entry per household, please. Open to readers from around the world!)
Comments are now closed. Winners will be announced tomorrow!

I have been trying my hand at M&P for about 4 months now after telling a friend that I needed a hobby. My friend then showed me the ropes to M&P and I’m loving every min. of it. I’ve even hosted a soap class for 1-5th grade girls at church last week and we all had a blast! I have never actually tried a CP soap before and would love to try your soap!
Guess I’ll start….I read a magzine article about a woman who made soap so I got interested and bought some from her. Out of Eden! I was hooked from the start when the box arrived…you could smell the soap before the box was even opened! After that I had to try every soapmaker’s soap. I got online and started googling soap and buying some from everyone I found…even you, my dear Amy! Then I got to thinking about trying to make some myself! Now my husband complains about all the shelves of soap I have made…we are running outta room now! *lol* I don’t use anything else but homemade soap…either my own or someone else’s. I have dry and sensivitve skin due to a rare condition and once I started using it, it made all the difference in the world for the condition of my skin! I have learned so much on this soap making journey of mine and have made some great friends along the way…even you, my dear Amy! 😉 Its this simple….homemade soap rocks!!!!! And if you haven’t tried it yet, get on the soap wagon with us…you won’t be sorry!!!
I would love to try your handmade soap. I make my own and love it, but I also love to try other soap makers soaps.
I read about your awesome lip butter on Fiddledeedee and so I bought it and thought why not try a soap or 2 so now over a year later I’m hooked! Can’t live with out my lip butter and always have a bar of wonderful smelling soap in my shower. Thank you Amy for opening my world to homemade soap and to Dee Dee for showing me the way!!
I started using them shortly after I decided it would be fun to make my own. Its like science lab for adults! Its fun!
I got started using handmade soaps when we were trying to find something my youngest daughter could use that wouldn’t break out her skin. I got started using yours when Autumn ordered me some as a gift. 🙂
when i first came to Australia for uni, i saw some at a craft market and they were so lovely that i had to try some. i’ve never looked back since! now i make soaps for myself, yet still couldn’t resist buying from other soapmakers. buying online, buying some when i walk pass a stall at markets, it’s little luxury that brightens ones mood.
I LOVE handmade soaps because they’re usually all-natural, free of harsh chemicals and fragrances (of course, always find out the ingredients!) I got started on handmade soaps earlier this year after purchasing a bar in an etsy shop! I’d LOVE to try this bar of soap. Thanks for the chance Amy!
Ohhh a giveaway! And I have to catch up on my blog reading now I’m back from holidays (and first up will be Cocobong’s review!).
I adore handmade soap – I won’t use anything else anymore, I refuse! It’s sooooooooo good for the skin, depending on who you buy from, it’s made with love and care and it’s a one off work of practical art. I think that’s one of the biggest attractions for me.. handmade soap is a work of art, the artist or soapmaker has designed a piece of art that is not only beautiful to look at, but smells incredible and is amazing to use on your skin. It does your body and soul good!!! Keep up the good work Amy and I’m off to read back on all the posts I’ve missed! xx
I started using handmade soap when I made some as a project for my daughter to take as a first day of school gift to her teachers. We had so much fun together that we decided to keep doing it. After about two weeks I noticed how soft my skin was and that I was using less lotion. Every since then I have been hooked!
I love your soaps! Most of my family has one kind of skin issue or another, and your soaps don’t aggravate any of them. One day I really would like to try making my own…but since yours work for all of us I haven’t! I like your other beer soap so this one sounds good too.
When I was a little girl I remember my Mother making her own soap. What she made was pretty crude but it cleaned our clothes and washed our dirty hands.A couple of years ago I realized that I now had lived more of my life without my Mother than with her. I wanted to hold on to my memories and try to show my children what a neat, awesome Grandmother they would have had.So while I try making my own soap,I usually buy from the many gifted soap makers, and teach my kids that you can, and should take control of the things you put on, and in your body.I’m happy to say that they all love and use homemade soap!
I love handmade soap because it makes my skin feel so nice. No itchiness. Soothing. No chemicals.
After losing everything to Hurricane Katrina, I started taking time for things I enjoy. I have just recently tried my hand at Cold process soap, it only took me 5 years to get the courage up, but I so love handmade soaps over store bought ones. When you lose everything you own and start over, it is the little things in life that mean the most. So, I would love to try a bar of your soap. I thank you for letting me enter this! Good luck everyone!
I just wanted to say that although I make soap, your oatmeal stout sounds yummy and the bar is very pretty :))
I love homemade soaps because they always smell so good. I first start using them when my mother bought me some for my birthday.
I started using handmade soaps a few years ago when I broke out in weird rashes all over my body. I tried every prescription cream out there, and finally switched to all handmade body products. Problem solved!
I was given my first bar of homemade soap as a gift. I love the variety of smells as well as how GOOD they are for my skin!
I started using handmade soaps after my addiction to all handmade bath and body began several years ago. I am a sucker for pretty soaps as well as great ones that make my skin feel awesome. There is nothing like having skin that’s smoother and more radiant than your 18 year old’s! I absolutely love all of the soaps I have tried from Great Cakes Soapworks so far!
I love using handmade soaps (from awesome vendors) because of the quality, the devotion of the maker to his/her craft, and for the health reasons of pure ingredients!
I started using handmade soap over 10 years ago when I came upon a shop, enticed by the scents and rustic good looks, I decided to give it a try though I was a devoted body wash user. To my surprise upon the first use I fell in love with the rich, creamy lather. To top the cake my eczema cleared up :o) Even better yet my skin didn’t feel tight and dry and eventually didn’t need moisturizer afterwards. Ever since then I’ve been a devoted handmade bath and body addict and refuse to ever use anything else! There’s just nothing better than knowing that I’m doing my body and the environment good washing with creamy, dreamy goodness. Also my favorite reason is supporting all the small mom n pop businesses out there that actually care about the effectiveness of their products and take pride in them opposed to big corporations that could care less and are only producing to make money, not caring about their customers skin and well being.
Handmade soap rocks! For me it started with a gift that turned into a practical hobby and has since turned into an obsession. What a difference that first bar of handmade soap made in my skin. I never looked back. Now, the whole family uses handmade soap. Even though I have shelves of soap waiting to be used, it doesn’t stop me from trying others – which drives the hubs crazy 🙂 – an added bonus! I really can’t help myself. I love the way it looks, feels, smells…and the way my skin feels! I even take it with me when I travel. No more commercially made soap for me. So, would I love a chance to win one of yours Amy? Um, yes please!
I bought homemade soap at the market for a couple of years and then decided to make it, I absolutely love making soap. I give it to my friends and families for gifts. I love to add rich butters like shea butter and only use clays for coloring, trying to keep my soap as natural as possible.
I love handmade because I love supporting small businesses AND I love how good my skin feels and smells when I use handmade products!
I love handmade soap because, from the first bar I tried, I knew there was a difference. Since it is not always easy to find handmade soap where I live, I recently started making my own soap. Do I need to tell you the addiction occurred after the first batch? Your Oatmeal Stout soap looks wonderful. Thank you for the opportunity to win a bar.
I’ve loved handmade soaps ever since I was a teenager and used to order it from a company in the States. I also worked for three Body Shops in Toronto where I’m from and loved everything bath and body. Then my mom gave me a gift to try out a nearby soap shop and I gasped over the price of one bar of soap. From that moment I knew I wanted to make my own and my love affair with making soap began 9 years ago.
The scents and the way a soap feels on my skin is a heavenly experience.
Handmade soap is something very special. It gives us another avenue to use our gifts and talents but to also incorporate and blend in His wonderful nature.
I don’t use anything but handmade soaps anymore, even on my hair, and I have never had clearer or softer skin and silky hair. Amy, yours are amazing and I keep coming back for your new ones, even though I have a basket full of them! Thanks for all you do.
I love handmade soap because it so great for my skin and smell heavenly and not like some nasty chemicals!!
I started using handmade soaps years ago when I started making CP myself. I love the fact that you get to choose the ingredients and can control the whole process from Start to Finish. Using other peoples handmade soap is a real treat because you get to enjoy someone elses hard work and know that you are getting a “healthy” bar of soap!
I started making soap around 1996. I had always wanted to learn & one day a friend of mine said “Hey, lets make some soap”! Before you knew it, we were buying all kinds of molds, fragrances, essential oils, etc. We started out with “Melt & Pour Soap”, but shortly into that process I got all excited about learning “Cold Process Soapmaking”. I have always had skin allergies and couldn’t figure out why, but thought it might have something to do with the commercial soaps I was using from the grocery store. I only wanted to make vegetable oil based soaps (no animal fats). I soon was up in running and had my 1st batch of soap made. I was addicted!!:) It’s now almost 15 years later & my skin allergies have disappeared. I absolutely love making homemade soaps. I especially love hearing back from my customers how beneficial my soaps have been for them and how much better their skin feels using my soaps!! It’s so good to know that you can do something that makes other people feel better. Who knew a bar of good homemade soap could make so many people happy!!
Amy,
That is a cool bar of soap! I may have to buy one and give it a try! Sounds divine.
I haven’t tried a homemade CP soap yet but I got into making soap as a way to have more control over the ingredients. The more I read, the more passionate I get about learning to make CP soap. I’m always dragging my kids to the computer to show them some amazing CP soaps! So far, I have only done M&P because I haven’t had the funds to buy the ingredients for CP soap yet. I really want to try some so would love to win this bar! Thanks for the giveaway!
I love handmade soaps because they feel so luxurious and leave my skin in such good condition. I started using them after receiving some as a gift.
I started to use homemade soaps to get away
From preservatives in store bought soaps. The
Homemade soap leaves my skin much smoother
I love homemade soap because of the ingredients. Nothing beats the scrubbing power of coffee grounds or oatmeal to help get sticky stuff off your hands.
I was always looking for something more natural for my skin. Some of the natural store bought soaps made my skin itch so my husband encouraged me to learn how to make it myself. I started researching and made my first batch a few years ago. I loved it! I couldn’t believe how much better my skin felt and how well my face took to it. Now I think he wishes I never learned! LOL!
I took one class in soapmaking and now I am addicted. I like knowing what the ingredients are that I put on my skin. I like to try different recipes and I have the ingredients to make Oatmeal Stout soap and would love a bar of yours to compare to.
I love nature and everything handmade, so I decided to try handmade soap a few years ago and I got instantly hooked and my skin so happy. Started as a big consumer, from different soapmakers and different methods/techniques/ingredients/etc… The thing is I am sooo crafty so I started experimenting myself doing melt & pour at first and later using the cold process method… the result! I love it! I made a lot! I sold hundreds 🙂 Now I use my own soaps but keep still buying from other fellow soapmakers from time to time 🙂
Let’s see…I got interested in handmade soap because my awesome sister-in-law started making it! I’d love to put you over the 40 mark and try your Oatmeal Stout.
Love your soap, Amy! And your lotions… lipbalms… face moistuizers… 🙂
I love handmade soap ever since I bought some at a sheep and wool festival. I just love how it is so much creamier than anything else!!! One day I plan to take a stab at making some but for now I just do melt and pour and buy other people’s soap 🙂
#40! How did miss this??? Anyway, I started making soap after I purchased a melt and pour kit from Michael’s about 4 years ago. It was fun, but not very satisfying. I love cold process and hot process soap making because of the science involved in the actual process! Oh yeah, handmade soap feels GOOD on my skin, but basically I’m in it because I’m such a nerd…
I was first introduced to handmade soap when I was a mere 7 years old. My mom started making soap and we used it everywhere. I remember shelves all over the basement overloaded with soap. My favorite soaps were the ones that mom made that smelled like play-clay or raspberries. I began helping make soap when I was 14, but my first batch by myself happened when I was 21. I keep making soap for fun and work and I love every minute of it.
Today, I love trying soap from different soapmakers and my house is filled with soaps from all over the world.
Thanks for the reminder! I made it before it ends!
I’ve been making and using my own toiletry for quit some time because I can never find a commercial product out there that would not dry out my skin. I have very dry skin, so dry that I even got dry eye symptom since age of 19 (normally people got that at age of 50 and above)! 🙁 My body just don’t produce enough lubricants of any kind naturally… sigh. Anyway, I’ve always want to try one of these hop soaps. I want it! Wish me luck!
I love handmade soap because it is such a difference…
And there are so many different soaps , you can try your whole life always new ones…
I would love to try this soap! As I get older I notice my skin is getting dry and I bet something natural would help.
My skin has been sensitive all of my life but I never knew that regular soap was the culprit to my rough/scratchy skin problems. When I was 44 (I’m 52 now), I went to Bath & Body Works and tried their gel soaps which pretty much licked the problem. I used to stock up and of course, as my stupid luck would have it,they discontinued their gel soap line entirely. I had finally found something that didn’t make me feel like an alligator and people stopped cringing away in horror when they felt the back of my arms.
I have no gel soap left and really struggle to find something that I can use. My son also has very dry skin and I make sure he never uses store-bought harsh soaps on his skin either.
I would love to be able to win one of your handmade soaps because it is something we would USE and really need. Thanks for your generous offering to some lucky winners!
I started making soap in 2004, to help my son with body acne as we called it. Got hooked, and the rest is history. I love trying other soapers products! And I see that you are giving away a beer soap, something that I have been wanting to try.
Several years ago when we lived in GA I found a local person that made soap and loved it. We even continued to purchase it after we moved away for a while. Last year I started using them again, trying several different ones. I LOVE the way my skin feels after using them.
