On the Curing Rack: African Gardenia

Nearly a month ago I mixed up a menagerie of gardenia and white floral scents, the majority of it being African Gardenia. It had been sitting in a pyrex cup with plastic wrap over it, and every once in awhile I would catch a whiff as I passed through the kitchen. “What’s that wonderful perfume?” I’d think – until I remembered what it was. Although I’m sad that I won’t be sniffing it in the kitchen anymore, I’m happy to announce that I finally had some time to make it into soap this week! The fragrance looked like it was curdling in the soap as soon as I added it, which made me a little nervous. But I whisked it up really well before pouring, and I think it turned out just fine!

I’d never tried this layering technique before, and I really like how it turned out! Love the great contrast of these colors together!

Another view…

Fortunately, it’s a full-sized batch so everyone who would like to get a bar should be able to get their hands on it after July 12th. Here’s one last photo for the road:

  1. That’s a real beauty there Amy! I love the swirl layer in the middle and the butter yellow. So gorgeous! I also must say, you totally rock that bar shape/size. I just love a rectangular bar!

  2. Very cool looking soap, Amy! I love the contrast and don’t think the swirled black and white would have stood out or been as unique looking in a colored base.

  3. What a gorgeous soap, Amy! I like the contrast of the colours and the sweet swirl in the middle:). Your soaps inspire me 😉

  4. Oh Amy, that is one artistic soap! And the vertical photo is striking. The soap is like some high end wall paper, the kind the stars would use in their LA digs (like I would have any idea what their homes look like inside)

  5. So beautiful… The black & white gives off an African “animal print” feel with the mellow yellow of a floral.

  6. Wow, what a gorgeous soap, Amy! I love the contrast, too. The black-and-white swirls look great against the yellow.
