On the Curing Rack: Americana Soap

Every year I think about making some type of patriotic soap for the 4th of July, and somehow forget that it needs to be made at least a month in advance! Well, this year time almost got away from me again…except that the night before last I woke up in the middle of the night and before I could go back to sleep, I planned out this Americana Soap in my head:

Americana Soap by Great Cakes Soapworks

It turned out almost exactly as I had imagined! The red and white stripes aren’t as straight as I had hoped, but everything else worked out pretty well. It is lightly scented with a clean linen fragrance.

In an attempt to speed up the curing time, I put the soap in the oven overnight, and now have a fan on it. My ready date goal is July 1st. There will only be 11 full-sized bars available, plus one that is just a little bit smaller. Check out the NEWS page to see all the soaps that are currently curing and their availability dates.

  1. Amy!! You’re awesome!!! The red looks wonderful, and its no wonder you couldn’t sleep.

  2. Amy, that is really pretty … and you know what, the uneven lines of red and white makes it looks like the flag is blowing in the wind. That’s soooo lovely!!!

  3. @Celine – Well, of course it does!! I had actually considered a hanger swirl to really make it look like it was flapping in the wind, but I chickened out!

  4. Celine said exactly what I was thinking-it does look like it’s blowing in the wind. Those are fabulous, Amy!

  5. Amy: you did such an awesome job, you should be proud! I just love them. What a great idea to wake you up by.

  6. That’s an incredible soap, Amy! I actually like the stripes being a bit wavy. That red is incredible….I picked up some Ruby Red and hope I can get something even remotely close to the red you obtained.

  7. Hi Amy – this looks fantastic. I agree with the previous comments – looks like the flag is flapping in the wind. Traci

  8. I love it! I like that the stripes are not straight. It looks more Americana old fashioned that way. The flag is waving!

  9. Very cool Amy! I thought the stars were m and p embeds! I love the waving lines in this soap!

  10. Wow, what a gorgeous soap, Amy! It looks like a lot of work went into this project. The star soap stamp is a great idea. And I love the colors and the wavy lines.

  11. Those turned out awesome!!! I wish I could pin down the red color. I’ve been trying to for months so I could make a 4th of july soap. Maybe next year.. lol… Great job Amy!!!

  12. Very nice! You got the colors just right! And I love the wavy, blowing in the breeze, look too.

  13. Wow Amy, those are sooooo beautiful. You are one talented soapmaker. Great job!

  14. Great idea , well done. I’m agree with all the previous comments. The soap is beautiful and a great soapy way to celebrate 4thJuly .

  15. Are you going to share your soapy secrets on how to create an effect like this? I’m trying to imagine how it would be done. It is very impressive!!

  16. Amy, you are sooooo good and what an idea. I love the colors but I have a hard time getting the red to come out in my soaps. Do you think its because I make goat milk soap? Would you be so kind to tell me what red color you use. I use some mica and still they are pink. Havent tried the lab colors because they say they bleed into other colors so unless you are doing a solid color they are no good. Have a great 4th.Deb

  17. Amy: I received my bar of this soap today and all I can say is that it is AMAZING. I love it and can’t wait to display it. The red is the best I have seen in a soap.
