On the Curing Rack: Antique Lilac

Antique Lilac Soap
Antique Lilac Soap
I’m pretty sure this is the third year that I’ve made the Antique Lilac soap. It has quite a following, and I only make it once a year – at Springtime, of course! Because I get tired of making the same soap the same way every time, I decided to lighten the base color and make a lilac-colored swirl this year. It reminds me of the Lily of the Valley soap with the crackle effect. I think it just adds to the antique effect, don’t you? I went digging in the storage area under our stairs to find some “antiques” for my photo props, and discovered a beautiful old handkerchief with purple flowers on it. I think it belonged to my great-grandmother.

Those who have smelled this soap know that it really does smell like fresh lilacs. I tested another lilac fragrance earlier in the year to see if I could find one that doesn’t discolor. Didn’t even compare, so I am sticking with the one that smells perfect.

This soap will be available for purchase at Greatcakessoapworks.com on Monday, May 11, and I plan to bring it to the farmer’s market on Saturday, May 16.

  2. That is gorgeous soap! I’d definitely have to use that soap as my “display” soap and not the real one that everyone uses on a daily basis because it’s just too pretty to use!!!

  3. Oh no! I need to go back to the drawing board then. The purpose of the soap is the bathing experience! See all the lathery bubbles, feel the way it makes your skin silky soft, smell the intoxicating fragrance, relax and enjoy!

  4. Touch it and you’ll pull back a nub, Amy! You best leave that beautiful soap as it is! I doubt you’ll have enough left to take to the market!
