On the Curing Rack: Butterfly Kisses

Here is a great story of an ugly duckling turning into a swan! Two years ago I blended a scent and created a soap that I sold as “Hibiscus”. Some of you may even remember it! I had a request from a friend to bring it back. It wasn’t my favorite soap to look at – in fact, it was a rather ugly duckling in my book.

To add insult to injury, the creamy parts eventually discolored to a light beige. Oh, so beautiful… However, it still had a very lovely fragrance (Right? Because I blended it myself!). So I decided I could work with the discoloration and the colors a little better, as well as come up with a name that was better suited for this sweet scent. Thus, Butterfly Kisses was born:

Pink and creamy layers, swirled together on top with a bit a sparkle = Butterfly Kisses
Slight crackle in the creamy layers
Just a hint of what the light and dark pink layers look like sandwiched between each creamy layer and accented with silver sparkle…
…and layers revealed!

So what does this intriguing scent smell like? Sweet floral meets vanilla and amber with undertones of musk. Just heavenly. I used a little more titanium dioxide to help keep the creamy layers looking lighter – hoping it will hold!

Four weeks to cure will make this lovely soap available on August 21st at Greatcakessoapworks.com

  1. Beautiful, Amy! I think the first Hibiscus version is pretty, too, but I love the new look. The different shades of pink provide a nice contrast, and I love the pencil line between each layers. I hope the white color holds for you, too! The scent sounds lovely.

  2. another beautiful work of art!! I mean Beautiful!! I bet the fragrance is very alluring too.
