On the Curing Rack: Sunflower…in the Kansas Wind
I made a Sunflower soap in the PVC pipe molds. The photo speaks for itself…I had some issues with migration. So now it’s called “Sunflower in the Kansas Wind.” The colors turned out exactly right. Nice golden yellow for the petals and deep brown for the center. I created a marbled effect for the green by swirling some darker green soap with the lighter green. The scent blend of lemongrass, litsea cubeba, patchouli, cedarwood, and sage essential oils actually smells a lot like real sunflowers.
One of my husband’s clients happened to be here this afternoon and got to witness the cutting of this soap. His remark: “Wow, those are pretty big soaps! You sell them for what, eight or ten dollars?” Hmmm, maybe I’m not charging enough!
These are going to need a good four weeks cure time, so I will plan to have them available around September 23rd. Meanwhile, I need a solution for keeping those embeds centered. Any suggestions?

try some cardboard with a cutout for each piece. Cut a circle the same size diameter (inside) as the PVC then from there cut out circles for where you want each smaller circle. Then after you pour slip the cardboard over the petals and slide it just inside the PVC tube. That should hold it in place. Did that make any sense what I just described? Jennifer
Besides a flower shape, have you ever thought about letting them fall where they fall and seeing how it turns out that way? I’d like to see it.
@Jennifer – Yes, that does. I am setting them in clear melt & pour soap at the bottom, and rubberbanding them together at the top. The problem is in the middle. I think the embedded soaps are too long, and therefore flimsy.
@Dennise – That might look pretty neat too – especially if they were all different colors. And I wouldn’t have to worry about where they ended up that way!
This is so fun! Love it:) Mistakes are sometimes ok. We need to relax and go with it. You sure did:)
These sunflowers look sooo pretty and I love the name!! It sure does look like a petal gently floating away in the wind. 🙂
I can’t help with the migration but oh my goodness! what lovely soap…and what a perfect name for them 🙂
Oh wow! That soap is beautiful and so impressive! I LOVE how it turned out!
One of my Facebook friends said it looks like “he loves me, he loves me not…” I thought that was pretty creative too!
I was just coming here to comment the same thing – he loves me, he loves me not!
The colors turned out so nice. Sometimes mistakes can be whimsical and your name of the soap makes light of that.
I think they turned out awesome!
oh Amy…that is one adorable looking soap! I’d buy it in a split second
You chose an awesome name for the soap, it definitely conveys a cute message/picture about the soap. Too cute! Turned out perfectly!
Why mess with perfection ? The floating petal is pure whimsey. But please tell me how do you make the long round embed ?
@Donna – That was part of my PVC pipe experiment! I have part 1 and part 2
