On the Curing Rack: Tranquil Pear
It’s really quite ironic that the name of this soap is Tranquil Pear. The process of making it was anything BUT tranquil! It was inspired by Emily of Shieh Design Studios and the soap she made (with her husband’s help) in a vertical mold on Super Bowl Sunday. Emily convinced me that I should try a vertical mold also. She made it look so easy, I thought, “Sure! Why not?” The only vertical molds I have are PVC pipe molds, but I figured it would work the same way as her rectangular one.
In theory, yes. In practice, not so much. Check it out:
The fragrance is just amazing! If you like pear scents, you will love this soap! Tranquil Pear soaps will cure for a good four weeks before being made available for purchase at Greatcakessoapworks.com – probably on March 20th.
How do you like the parrot?

Amy, this was fun to watch 🙂
I like a soap that feels smooth and has
a fruit fragrance. You make the best!
Thank you, Rita!
At least you 2 girls had fun! And it came out great anyway! You need narrow mouth containers and a LONG stick! LOL
Very cool process, thanks for sharing.
@Emily – Yes, we did have fun! And the soap turned out… all is well. Just not sure we’ll be doing it again any time soon!
@Karen – Glad you enjoyed it!
You guys seem like you were having SO much fun – lots of laughing =) And yes, very nice parrot design on that one bar.
Nice video and nice swirls! What a cute little helper you have, it was fun to watch you two try and get the soap into the mold. 😀
Hi Amy,
I just kept smiling while watching your video. I used to have as much fun with my daughters too, I miss that. Now they are in their 20+, they have other interests (like blogging), they still like what I make but are not interested in making it together with me. And Yes I really like the fragrance of ripe juicy pears.
@Anne-Marie – I think we created some fun memories. Still can’t believe the parrot…
@Nitya – I almost didn’t make a video that day – now I’m glad I did!
@Rita – I try to cherish these moments. I know they will pass all too quickly.
I LOVE the grey green! I’m thinking pale yellows and grey would make pretty cool ‘moons’… but, what does the moon smell like? ha!
Amy,
What a fun time seeing the soap go all over. You were both so calm about it and just laughing away. Love the parrot and love how you edit your videos with music (it’s always so swingy sounding). I’d love to be there soaping with you guys. If I ever make it to Kansas.
Michelle
@Candy – I’m not sure what the moon smells like, but my friend Kendra made a soap with a Celtic Moonspice fragrance. That could work!
@Michelle – Come on over!! We’ll have a good old time!
