Project Week: Day One

In just a few short weeks, my girls will be having their birthdays. My oldest will be eight on the 21st, and my “baby” will be six on August 4th. For their birthdays, I decided to fix up their rooms for them. Just a few minor things that will make them oh, so happy. However, to start these projects, we had to do some major cleaning. I took some before pictures just to show you what I’m up against:

This afternoon, I tackled the purple room, belonging to the older one. I painted it purple when she was two and didn’t really have any say in the matter. She has been begging to paint it green. I figured it was a phase, but she’s still intent on it. So hopefully tomorrow, we’ll be picking out a nice mellow, lime green – if that’s possible. Greens are such a difficult color to get right, so I’m praying we find the right color the first time. (I could tell you about the “interesting” green houses in our neighborhood, but that would be a very long tangent, so I won’t go there.)

I’m not ready to paint the pink and green room yet. I spent many long hours painting it while I was pregnant with her. She understands. I will, however, be sewing some new curtains that actually match the rest of the room. We have more projects coming up, and I will try to keep you updated as we go.

  1. Our son painted our grandson’s room a light lime green and it was great. I’m not a fan of regular green but really liked the lime since it really brightened things up and was a cheerful color. If you find a picture with the color she wants you can take it to the store and they can match it. I’m sure you’ll find just the right one! Sprucing up their rooms sounds like a great idea for birthday gifts.

  2. Our neighbor across the street painted her baby’s room a nice light green – it’s actually called apple. She let us borrow the can to try some. We also went to Lowe’s and bought two samples. We painted some of each on the walls and so far she likes the brightest one, and I like the one from our neighbor. It’s her room though, so I guess it will just be sort of bright!
