Shampoo Bar, Day 4
I’ve used the shampoo bar for four days now, and my hair is better and worse. It’s way less tangly than the first day, and I’m starting to see more body to my hair – at least in front and on top. It’s laying much smoother now too. I’ve been able to work my shampoo bar into a really great lather, so I feel like it’s getting clean. Then I get plenty of cider vinegar rinse all over my hair and scalp, wait a few minutes, and rinse it out.
Unfortunately, just above my left ear I have a greasy, gunky mess. In fact, it looks and feels like I haven’t washed that part of my hair in the last four days!
So now I’m wondering, how did I fail to get the soap worked into that side of my head? I’ve never had issues like this before using the shampoo bar, so what am I doing differently? I’m just thankful my whole head doesn’t look like a greasy mop!

I wonder if it’s one of two things 1)according to Soap Naturally it takes a bit for the shampoo bar to dissolve any build up 2)are you getting vinegar to that area?
I had a few days for funky hair when I started – sort of tacky, sticky oily feeling. Maybe it’s just the transition. Hang in there.
@Michele – Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, I was being extra careful about getting the vinegar on that area, because it’s been bothering me! I will definitely hang in there. 🙂
I’m on day three -you girls have INSPIRED ME! I had yet another customer ask for a shampoo bar this weekend. I hope to make one this week, but for now I’m using my “soft” bars (remember my week-old-lye incident?) on my hair + the vinegar rinse, and so far so good. No gunk (yet)and the vinegar really helps with the tangles. I’m very accustomed to alot of “slip” from my old conditioner, and I miss that a bit, but I’m forging ahead! Maybe it’s all the, er,….”sunshine” in my hair that uses up any excess oil? LOL! -hugs to you both! -B.
Hey Becky – The more the merrier!! Glad to hear your hair is adjusting better than mine… I have plenty of “sunshine” in my hair as well. LOL!
Amy,
You’re a stronger woman than I. I lasted to where you are now and couldn’t take it anymore. I have customers rave over my shampoo bars but I just can’t do it. I’m interested in seeing how you progress with this. Please keep us informed! =)
Dawn
@Dawn – Oh no! You should have stuck with it at least one more day! After one more shampoo, there are no more greasy spots, and my hair is feeling so much better! I’ll definitely keep you all posted on my progress. 🙂
