Tub Time Survey!

Bath Bomb or Tub Truffle?I’m working on a new recipe for Tub Truffles. They are meant to be a cross between a fizzy bath bomb and bath oils. I’ve made bath bombs in the past, but wanted to try these. I took a picture of my first attempt today which actually resembles a bath bomb instead of what I had in mind. The dark flecks are grated chocolate, and they are scented with a chocolate truffle fragrance – YUMMY!

Chocolate Tub Truffles by Great Cakes SoapworksMy second attempt came out more like what I was thinking. Something that resembles an edible truffle. Only it isn’t. It has a lot more cocoa butter in it, and I was able to roll them into balls. They are also made with citric acid and baking soda which will make them fizz. The tan color is from a bit of real chocolate that I melted with the cocoa butter. These also smell like chocolate truffles. Mmmm.

I love the way my skin feels after using a bath bomb. So moisturized and soft! However, I started wondering if people would like to have them foam as well. Any type of foaming agent will not be natural, and most of them have gotten a bad rap for drying out your skin and being too harsh for sensitive skin. However, I have heard that there are a few that, while they aren’t natural, are very mild. And who doesn’t love a bubble bath?

Update: After a little more research, I think the added oils in the tub truffles would kill the bubbles. I need to choose between fizzy tub truffles and a solid bubble bath.

So here’s the question: Do you love to take a bath? Would you prefer some fizzy Tub Truffles? Or a solid bubble bar with a synthetic foaming agent? Leave me some comments and I’ll pick one to receive some tub truffles (since I already have ingredients for these) – if you like baths, or a soap of your choice if you prefer showers. Winner will be picked on Monday.

  1. I love a good fizz! I’ve made bath bombs before…the citric acid/baking soada combo and it has a nice fizz….but not a bubble. If that makes sense. Lol.
And they do look ediable! Yum!

  2. Oooooh, newbie here, glad I found your blog! I lOVE, LOVE, LOVE tub truffles! They make you slippery but leave your skin sooo soft and moisturized. I would try some with the foaming agent in them, I think that would just make them even better and the cocoa butter in them should make up for any drying it would maybe cause. I’m really curious to see a foaming bath truffle!!! ~*~Crystal~*~

  3. With allergies and sensitive skin in my home, I would prefer to NOT have any foaming agents in the truffles. I love tub truffles and I love the fizz for a nice bath when this busy mom and student gets some “mommy” time!! (usually late at night, but hey, it is quiet! LOL)

I vote for NO FOAM! Sorry, it is novel, but I fear what the chemical agent may cause to my skin and that of others in my home (mostly my boys…who do like to indulge in moms bath stuff!). No Foam please!

  4. Great comments so far. Just as I suspected there will be people on both sides of the fence. LOL!

Keep them coming so I can sense a trend, ok?

  5. I prefer showers so I look for a soap or shower gel that smells great, moisturizes, lots of suds but rinses well. However,my daughter loves long baths with LOTS of bubbles!

  6. I vote no foam! I have very dry skin too and don’t want my skin to dry out! I love the look of the truffles!

  7. Well, I’m a shower girl. I like to soak in the tub every once in a while but I often don’t want to take that time. I prefer a nice, clean smelling moisturizing soap or shower gel. And truthfully, I can not, in any way, bathe is something that smells like dessert! That’s just me. My husband just brought home some kind of bath salts that were sorta’ fruit scented. I had to hold my breath to even carry the jar to his bathroom. The sweet smell literally gagged me! Bleh! Anyway, I do love the shape you have going with these though. Very cute. And, I’ve never tried a fizzy thing in the tub. Maybe I’m missing something.

  8. I vote for foam! I would love to try something where I
don’t have to lather my legs to shave!

  9. I think I would prefer fizzy tub truffles….I think fizzies are just fun! :-)Just my opinion.

  10. I would like to try fizz ball. With sensative skin i don’t know.
“But why not make both. Try one with oils, and one with fizz. That way clients can choose.
With holidays coming up this will be a nice treat or yummy bath, when shared,lol……..
or a pretty and gift. Best of luck in choosing. Raquel

  11. I’m a shower person so I would prefer a natural soap bar with no synthetic foamies. Thanks for asking!

  12. You know I’m a bath girl! Since I do not have sensitive skin, I would love either of the two options. I think fizzies are super-fun as I’m sitting there watching them fizz, but I love some good bubbbles, too. (I don’t think I’ve ever tried a tub truffle, but didn’t I try some of your bath bombs sometime?)
OK – so I’m not much help, but I’d enjoy either! Much love!

  13. I do enjoy a hot bath, especially when my back hurts after a long day at the hospital. I’ve never tried fizzies, but after reading some of these comments, I think I will! Fizzy Tub Truffles just sound fun!!! I vote Fizzy:)

  14. I love taking baths! I always use a bath bomb, but I have never tried a bath fizzy. Sounds wonderful, though!!!

  15. I’m a busy mom too, so a soak in the tub with mountains of bubbles is a treat for me. I would vote for a solid bubble bar w/gentle ingredients. In my experience, some bath bombs leave a heavy residue behind yet with others it is easy to rinse away. Why is that? The last thing I need is a mess to clean up after a stress reducing bath! 🙂

  16. I like the idea of the truffle, but I am leaning toward the non-fizz. Truffles seem to be more the indulgence and I would go with the oils to go with that.
Fizzies – for me – is more engergizing and would be good for those days that I want to revive. Like after this weekend of yardwork. The truffles would be more for the nice soak while reading a book and having tea lights going.
I generally go to showers for day-to-day and keep baths for soaking and that would be good for the oils to work.

  17. I love baths!! I go all out when it comes to my baths…soft music, candles, and very smelly stuff in the tub with me!! I think they are the perfect ending to a hard days work and a chance to reflect and relax! My vote is of course bubbles!!! Bubbles! And if you can, more bubbles!! When it comes to bombs and truffles, I just love how they make your skin feel after a nice quiet soak!
