You Win Some, You Lose Some
Well….the first soap I made yesterday looked really great in the mold:
I used a hibiscus fragrance for the bottom half, and a different fragrance called “White Butterfly” for the top half. I knew the hibiscus fragrance might set up on me, so I decided to just color it solid and pour it in the bottom. The White Butterfly fragrance is supposed to discolor to a tan, so I used a bit of titanium dioxide in the base color – which is currently a creamy color, and colored the green and purple swirls without adding fragrance to morph the colors. Gorgeous swirls, right? I was pretty happy about that! And the fragrance is absolutely heavenly! So where did I go wrong? Color choice. I chose a pink for the bottom half, which turned out sort of coral:
I’m not sure what I was thinking!! I had originally set out pink, orange and yellow micas for this soap, and at the last minute decided to go for the purple and green. Whatever. It’s colorful. And it smells great.
The second soap I made yesterday I’ve made before. It’s my coffee soap, fragranced with Hazelnut Cappuccino. Mmmm. After all the fun I had swirling the Hibiscus soap, I decided to add a dark brown swirl to this one with a bit of cocoa powder:
My husband saw it and said, “That looks interesting.” Which is a compliment coming from an engineer.
Both of these should be available at Greatcakessoapworks.com on Saturday, June 19. More new soap photos coming tomorrow! I can hardly wait!

Gorgeous swirls – great for Mardi Gras. The soaps came out pretty, but the coral bottom does go better with hibiscus. But ya know something – I’ve found that some soaps that I am not 100% happy with are usually good sellers. It’s the scents people are into. I love the coffee soap. I might have to get a bar – sounds heavenly and looks awesome!!
I think you won on all counts! I LOVE the way the hibiscus one turned out. It is so pretty! I really like the dark swirl in the coffee soap too. It really stands out and is so luxurious looking.

I love the colours – they look happy and summery!
And the coffee one – I think I need that. Although, I might be tempted to lick it in the AM.
